If you look on their website, Giving+Sum describes itself as “a not-for-profit organization of emerging philanthropists working together to improve Indianapolis and central Indiana. By combining members’ resources – time, talent, and finances, Giving Sum is able to multiply the impact that members have on the community and on each other.”  But, if you’ve spent any time with this organization and it’s members, you know that it’s so much more.  Since it’s inception, I’ve been honored to watch this group of forward-thinking people make an enormous impact on Indianapolis.

Basically, a group of professionals got together and decided that they would award a grant of $50,000 each year to innovative not-for-profit organizations that are making a difference.  They spend the year reviewing grant applications, making strides around Indy and having a good time.  In the end, the members vote on the organization that will receive the grant, and they have a party to announce the winner.  It really doesn’t get any better than that.

This years finalists were Indy Reads, Back On My Feet and School on Wheels.  Congratulations to this year’s winner—Indy Reads!  Please read up on all four of these organizations and how they are making Indianapolis a better place to live.  And again, congratulations to my friends for doing good things… and throwing good parties.
